Osteopathy - The Facts...........

•  OSTEOPATHS restore your body’s normal balance and function. As part of your treatment programme, we encourage you to manage your symptoms using exercise, relaxation & rehabilitation programmes that are designed specifically for you.

• OSTEOPATHS use hands on techniques to relieve your pain & avoid the use of electro- therapeutic machines. Treatment is gentle, relaxing and effective leading to long lasting pain relief.

• OSTEOPATHS spend the entire duration of a treatment with you and do not leave you to complete exercises or programmes alone. The time we spend with you is used to gain a deep understanding of your symptoms and to assess the best way to help you.

• OSTEOPATHS do not support over treatment or excessive use of manipulation to treat your joint & muscle pain.

• OSTEOPATHS are primary health care practitioners. No referral is necessary to see an Osteopath.

• OSTEOPATHS successfully treat patients with conditions that have not responded to other therapies.

• OSTEOPATHS treat new patients for up to 1 hour. Subsequent treatments last up to 30 minutes.

•
OSTEOPATHS use x-rays like medical doctors to diagnose possible fractures, bone pathology and disease. You do not require an x-ray in order to be treated by an osteopath unless we feel your symptoms indicate this type of investigation.

• OSTEOPATHS train for 5 years at University. In order to practise, osteopaths must be registered under the Osteopaths Registration Board of Victoria.

• OSTEOPATHIC treatment is covered by most private health funds under their extras cover.

• OSTEOPATHY originated from the field of Medicine in the United States. Australian OSTEOPATHS celebrate 100 years of care and treatment in 2008.
